A Freedom woman was sentenced Friday to four years in state prison for a drunken-driving crash that killed a father of two in September 2010.

In a heart-wrenching hearing that left few dry eyes, Judge Paul Burdick sentenced Maria Villegas de Munoz for the death of James Parker.

De Munoz pleaded no contest in August to a felony charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing bodily injury and driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content in excess of 0.08 percent.

Parker of Aromas had picked his teenage son up from football practice and the two were riding home on his motorcycle when they were struck.

Friends and family members of the Parkers filled an entire side of the courtroom, including several teammates from his son’s football team dressed in their maroon-and-white jerseys.
