Hollister police Tuesday arrested Christian Machuca, 20, and alleged that he led officers on a foot chase and violently resisted arrest.
Machuca was booked at the county jail on charges alleging battery on an officer and resisting arrest, according to the HPD.
According to a police report:
At about 9:50 pm, Officer Carlos Rodriguez responded to the 800 block of West Second Street on a report of a young man and woman physically assaulting one another. Witnesses described the young woman as wearing a red sweater. Officer Rodriguez arrived and noticed a Hispanic male adult standing next to a young woman wearing a red sweater. The woman appeared to have been sobbing.
Officer Rodriguez contacted the man who was later identified as Machuca. Officer Rodriguez began a routine search for weapons on Machuca when he pulled away from Officer Rodriguez and ran eastbound on West Second Street. Officer Luis Toribio arrived to assist and both officers gave chase as Machuca changed his direction of travel and eventually ran westbound to Line Street. Machuca was arrested as he attempted to jump a fence.
Machuca was handcuffed but he continued to violently resist by spitting, kicking and attempting to bite officers. Machuca continued to use his handcuffed hands to grab at officers and attempt to hurt them. All attempts to calm Machuca were unsuccessful. He continued to yell profanity at officers and encouraged a crowd of family members; who had also arrived and were challenging the officers. Family members were continually ordered to stay back but continued to interfere with the arrest and investigation of officers.
Machuca was eventually booked at the San Benito County Jail on charges of resisting arrest and battery on an officer. His bail was set at $6,000.
