The Central California Alliance for Health board of directors voted against expanding into San Benito to offer managed care for Medi-Cal patients due to a conflict between Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital and the San Benito Health Foundation.

Velma Tiffany was honored as “Donor of the Year”at the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation’s Sixth Annual Dinner Dance and Fundraiser at San Juan Oaks on Nov. 9.

According to the foundation, Tiffany was honored for her generosity toward the hospital and for her services as a volunteer for over 50 years.

The 86-year-old has been a Hollister resident for 56 years. She was born in San Francisco and she lived in Philippines for a few years. She attended Stephen’s College in Missouri, then transferred to Stanford, where she met her husband.

Other accolades include: San Benito County Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 2010; founding chapter member of Kinship for 55 years; Community Foundation for San Benito County Philanthropist of the Year in 2004; charter member, Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary for 50 years.

She was honored by the Hospital Foundation for being “a very generous donor to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital – she and Tiffany Transportation – since 1998.”

According to the group, she has made substantial lead gifts to:

  • Mabie-Southside Convalescent Hospital
  • The Northside Challenge Campaign
  • The General Fund
  • The Campaign for the New ER and most recently, naming a Birthing Suite at the new Women’s Center.

Michelle Imperato, KSBW 8-Action News Sunrise Anchor, presided over the presentation.

Veteran’s Memorial Building, Downtown Hollister

The Hazel Hawkins Hospitals Auxiliary presents their 34th annual Winter Magic Bazaar and Luncheon on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Veterans Memorial Building. The event is open to the public with free admission. The Bazaar will take place from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and a soup and salad luncheon be served during from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at a cost of $9 per person.
