The San Benito boys basketball team closed the Cupertino Shootout with back-to-back wins over the weekend to improve its season record to 3-1.
After falling to Bellarmine in the tournament opener, San Benito used a 24-point fourth quarter to defeat host Cupertino 59-36 on Friday. And the Balers closed the tournament on Saturday with a 52-37 victory over Homestead.
Against Cupertino, the Balers defense shutdown Cupertino in the second quarter, holding the Pioneers to only five points.
In the second half, after Cupertino pulled to within two, the Balers defense again took over in the final frame. San Benito held Cupertino to only three points while the Balers struck for 25.
Jacob Tonascia and Hyram Miskin each scored a team-high 3 points. Robert Henderson added seven points and Brian Becerra scored six in the victory.
On Saturday against Homestead, it was the Baler defense that again stood out, holding the Mustangs to only five fourth-quarter points.
Meanwhile, San Benito’s offense continued to find a groove, scoring at least 12 points in all four quarters to come away with the victory.
Miskin finished with a team-high 14 points in the victory. Miskin, who led the Tri-County Athletic League with 3-pointers made last year, hit two 3-pointers in the win. Tonascia added 13 points for the Balers. Robert Henderson and Robbie Skinner each scored six points for the Balers.
San Benito hosts Patterson at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
