As usual, a meeting on the pitch between rivals Gilroy and San Benito didn’t lack in entertainment, tense moments or questionable calls.
Both sides had quality chances, yet neither finished.

“A very competitive game,” San Benito head coach Ben Alvarez said. “I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
Both goals came in the second half and each via set pieces.
Gilroy’s Indra Garcia capitalized on a penalty kick in the 55th minute, while Daniela Ocampo curled in the equalizer after a foul was called just outside the penalty area in the 63rd.
“Everyone was healthy today,” said Alvarez, whose Balers (6-0-5, 2-0-1) dropped both encounters with Gilroy last season, including a 3-0 loss at home. “They have a great program and we prepare the same way for every team that comes our way.”
The Mustangs (5-2-4, 2-0-1 TCAL), who had scored 13 goals in their previous two league tilts, controlled the time of possession, but were properly held in check by an equally fast back third of the Balers.
“I was happy with the possession,” GHS head coach Jose Hernandez said. “I thought we did a better job possessing than we have in the previous games. Hollister did a good job of sticking to their game plan. The game ended the way it was meant to end. We go back and continue to work. We obviously have areas we need work, maybe be a little more mentally prepared. Rivalries are rivalries and we get them at home.”
