The Hollister Police Department is searching for a fifth suspect involved with a Dec. 5 fight outside Paine’s Restaurant, after arresting four other suspects accused of the crime, according to a statement released Tuesday.

Police arrested Jose Jaime, 25, Alexander Trujillo, 18, Michael Mendoza, 22, and Alberto Colmenero, 24, on accusations of assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing great bodily harm, conspiracy to commit a criminal act, and street terrorism.

The fifth suspect, who police identified as Samuel Canela, 25, has a warrant out for his arrest but he has yet to be captured, according to the press release.

The five suspects are accused of beating a man outside the restaurant and smashing beer bottles over his head. Police allege the suspects used broken glass to stab the victim in the back of the head. The suspects continued to punch and kick the victim in the head before he fled, according to police.

The fight occurred around midnight outside the restaurant on East Street, police alleged, after the suspects singled out a member of a rival gang and attacked him.

Officers identified the suspects after using the restaurant’s surveillance system. San Benito County probation officers and California State probation officers also helped to identify the suspects.

Anyone with more information is urged to call Officer Bo Leland at (831) 638-4151 or to remain anonymous can call WeTIP at (800) 78-CRIME.
