12-seed in the Central Coast Section Division V Championships on
Sunday, and will host No. 13 Kehillah Jewish in Tuesday’s opening
round.

After finishing runner-up in the Coastal Athletic League with a 9-3 record, the Anzar High boys’ basketball team was awarded the 12-seed in the Central Coast Section Division V Championships on Sunday, and will host No. 13 Kehillah Jewish in Tuesday’s opening round.
Tip-off is 7 p.m. in San Juan Bautista.

Kehillah Jewish, of Palo Alto, went 10-11 overall this season, 5-7 in the Private School Athletic League to finish in fifth place.
Although the two teams have not squared off against each other this season, Anzar and Kehillah Jewish have had several common opponents, including KIPP San Jose Collegiate, Anchorpoint Christian and Trinity Christian.
For what it’s worth, Kehillah Jewish defeated Trinity Christian 65-41, while Anzar did the same by margins of 66-30 and 57-49.
The Hawks (10-9) have won their last four games, and finished in second place behind undefeated Pacific Collegiate in the CAL. Pacific Collegiate was awarded the 10-seed in the Division V bracket, and will visit No. 7 Thomas More to open Thursday’s second round.
The winner of Tuesday’s first-round matchup between Anzar and Kehillah Jewish, meanwhile, will advance to Thursday’s second round at No. 5 Priory (10-11). Tip-off is 7 p.m.
The top four seeds in Division V, including No. 1 Pinewood (19-5), No. 2 St. Francis CCC (15-10), No. 3 Mid-Peninsula (19-2) and No. 4 Crystal Springs (12-12), each earned byes through the first two rounds of play.
No. 6 St. Lawrence (16-9) received a first-round bye, and will face the winner between No. 11 Eastside Prep (6-18) and No. 14 Kirby (8-9).
In another second-round matchup, No. 9 Alma Heights (11-11) and No. 8 Jewish Community (15-7) will face off, with the winner advancing to play top-seeded Pinewood.
The CCS Division V Championship is scheduled for Saturday, March 5, at Santa Clara University. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
