Lucille was born in Sunnyvale to Portuguese immigrant parents. She came to Gilroy in 1946 where she worked at CCG cannery on Lewis Street for 41 years. During the war she worked for Lockheed in Sunnyvale and in Glendale. She was one of the first women to work as a plumber in the P-38 planes. Lucille now belongs to the National Auxiliary of Rosie the Riveter.

Lucille is the mother of Lucilia and Dan Leonardo; grandmother to Jeff and Shannon Leonardo; great-grandmother to Taylor Yslava; and aunt to Marilyn and Richard Allen.

She has travelled to the Azores three times, to Hawaii twice and to Rome. She has gone on cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean and Ensenada. She enjoys volunteering at church, as well as her clubs: Native Daughters, Women in Touch and Over 50s. She also enjoys helping to package items for our troops at Operation Independence.

HONOR

Tom Borns

On Jan. 25, 2011, the Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America conferred upon Tom Borns the rank of Eagle Scout. Tom is a member of Boy Scout Troop 7 sponsored by Bethany Community Church in Tempe, Ariz. He is a senior at Seton Catholic Preparatory High School in Chandler, where he is actively involved in the Seton Ambassador program and sports, in particular, varsity football.

Tom’s Eagle Scout project was the complete installation of a 30 foot tall flagpole at the Seton Catholic Preparatory football field. His project was completed with the help of 30 volunteers that gave a total of 180 hours of service; Seton now routinely uses the new flagpole installation for soccer, football and track events at the school.

Tom is the grandson of Mary Dean Borns of San Martin.
