Mondays take on a little more life in historic San Juan Bautista, where the Monday Market brings residents and visitors together to shop, browse and enjoy the small-town atmosphere.

The market, produced by the San Juan Bautista Business Association, offers an opportunity to discover locally made goods, fresh products and unique finds while supporting small businesses and local vendors.

More than simply a place to shop, the market adds to the welcoming, community-oriented character that makes San Juan Bautista a popular destination.

“It’s been good and has grown,” said Graciela Nutter, SJBBA board member about the slow days in the city. “Since starting in April, business owners have expressed an interest in opening Mondays and Tuesdays.”

On Aug. 10, San Juan Bakery owner Diane Hampton, who recently closed her shop, was selling some of her cookie jars. Julissa Portillo was taking care of her mother Reina Granado’s booth. She is the owner of the Flamingo Thrift Store and the Gelato store.

“It is helpful,” Portillo said about the Monday Market. “We’re able to bring everything out so people can easily see everything. These types of events are incentives to bring more people to San Juan Bautista.”

With its historic downtown, locally owned shops and restaurants, and nearby Mission San Juan Bautista, the Monday Market provides another reason to spend part of the day exploring one of San Benito County’s most distinctive communities.

For residents, it’s a chance to catch up with neighbors and support local entrepreneurs. For visitors, it’s an easy way to experience a bit of the community’s charm while discovering something new.

The Monday Market takes place 10am-2pm every Monday through early November.
