Shortly after 9:15 a.m., authorities responded to the two-vehicle accident on Highway 1 north of Salinas Road. The Hollister woman, 20, was in a 1999 Honda sedan northbound just south of Salinas Road and, for unknown reasons, crossed into southbound traffic and collided with a big rig, a 2007 Peterbuilt tractor trailer, according to the CHP.

The Hollister woman, whose name has not been released, was ejected from the car and sustained what the CHP called major injuries. The truck’s driver had no injuries, according to the CHP.

Traffic was slowed but remained open during the investigation. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role.
