Jennifer Shaffer and Stephen “Duffy” Kline are engaged to be married.

Jennifer, daughter of Steven and Kathleen Shaffer of Morgan Hill, is a graduate of Gavilan College and a program director for the YMCA Power School in Gilroy.

Duffy, son of Steve Kline of Morgan Hill and Debbie Kline of Gilroy, is the owner/operator of Kline’s Plumbing Service in Gilroy.

The couple is looking forward to a small, intimate wedding this fall in Lake Tahoe. After a brief honeymoon, they will live in San Luis Obispo.

HONORS

Zane Pettibone

Coast Guard Seaman Zane Pettibone, son of Sabrina and Ted Pettibone of Morgan Hill, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

During the eight-week training program, Pettibone completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, physical fitness, health and wellness, first aid, firefighting and marksmanship. Men and women train together from the first day in the Coast Guard just as they will work together aboard ships and shore units throughout the world.

Pettibone is a 2009 graduate of Thomas More High School of San Jose.

Ayoung Kim

Morgan Hill resident Ayoung Kim, a Northeastern University student majoring in pharmacy, was recently named to the University’s Dean’s List for the fall semester, which ended in December 2010. To achieve the Dean’s List distinction, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.5 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no single grade lower than a C- during the course of their college career.

In addition, Ayoung Kim is a member of the University Honors Program, which offers high caliber students the chance to further hone their studies and interests, live in special interest on-campus housing, and participate in one or two honors courses each term. Invitation into the honors program is highly competitive and students must maintain a high GPA and strong commitment to campus leadership to remain a part. Currently, Kim is among some 1,400 students involved in Northeastern’s honors program.

Bryan Yates

Bryan Michael Yates was named to the Dean’s List at San Diego State University, College of Business Administration. Students who maintain this high level of scholarship and graduate in the top 10 are invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma, the national honor society for business majors.

Bryan is the son of Michael and Zann Yates of Morgan Hill.

Jocelyn Canosa

Jocelyn R. Canosa, a resident of Morgan Hill, has earned an associate’s degree in applied science in nursing from Excelsior College. Excelsior College is an accredited, private, nonprofit institution that focuses on the needs of working adults.

Amanda Valderrama

Amanda Valderrama was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2010 semester at San Francisco State University.

Amanda, daughter of Robert Valderrama and Beverley Hansen, both of Morgan Hill, is a criminal justice major.
