Police arrested a woman from Mexico on March 11 after they found 39 pounds of methamphetamine worth approximately $430,000 stashed in a vehicle she was driving, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department.
About 10 p.m. Friday, detectives from the California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team stopped a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser in the area of Highways 101 and 152, according to a sheriff’s press release.
With the assistance from a Santa Clara Police Department K-9 unit and special agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, detectives discovered the drugs in various hidden compartments inside the vehicle, including behind a tail light and in a makeshift hole in a wheel well, Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Sung said.
The lone driver, a 54-year-old female from Tijuana, Mexico, was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose for possession and transportation of methamphetamine for sale, as well as importing a controlled substance, according to the release. Her name will not be released at this time, Sung said.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect entered California through the Otay Mesa service port Friday in an attempt to distribute the drugs in San Jose, according to the Sherrif’s Department.
The suspect is currently in custody without bail.
