The Hollister City Council on Monday voted 2-2 on a proposal to increase the fuel-flow rate at the airport, meaning the idea dies or would have to come back for another consideration.

The council had been considering an increase to the city’s fuel tax from 5 cents to 12 cents. It would make it the second highest rate in the region after Livermore and its rate of 14 cents, according to a city analysis.

Council members Victor Gomez and Robert Scattini voted against the increase, while Doug Emerson and Pauline Valdivia supported it. Councilman Ray Friend was absent.

In a separate vote, council members approved the pursuit of a consultant to oversee capital projects funded by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Fuel pumping at the airport is overseen by Gavilan Aviation, which maintains contracts with the city for those services, along with management of the facility’s 24 T-hangars.
