Serene Home recently readying to close the store front after nearly
four years in business.

A turnstile of sorts for downtown businesses has continued, with Serene Home readying to close the store front after nearly four years in business.
Retired chef/caterer Jeri Hernandez opened Serene Home at 243 Sixth St., near the corner of San Benito Street, in September 2007. The business store front will close next month.
Serene Home, which had counted on foot traffic from neighboring shops and diners, is a home decoration and accessory store that boasted itself as selling “quality home decor & gift items at an affordable price,” according to its Facebook page.
In the past year or two, the downtown has lost such businesses as Elegant Touch, Maddox Jewelry, Las Palmas Restaurant, Sally Street Studios, French’s Kitchen & Bath Collectibles & Gifts, Monte Carlo, Pancho’s Restaurant and San Benito Pasta. But it has gained others such as the Heavenly Bakery, Tres Jolie vintage clothing and Serendipity.
