Officers from the Hollister Police Department were called to Rancho San Justo Middle School last week after a teacher found an 11-year-old student with a small knife.

The teacher Thursday found the student with the weapon around 8:30 a.m., police alleged. The teacher notified the police, who cited the kid and his parents, according to Capt. David Westrick.

Along with the knife, officers reported they found a smoking pipe and a lighter in his possession. No drugs were found.

“These are the small things that parents and teachers need to be aware of,” Westrick said.
