The statewide sales and use tax rate will decrease from 8.25 percent to 7.25 percent on Friday, July 1. The adjustment means San Benito County’s tax rate will also drop to 7.25 percent while the rate in the City of Hollister, which charges an additional one percent as part of the voter-approved Measure T, will fall to 8.25 percent.

San Juan Bautista’s tax rate will drop to 8 percent Friday.

The decrease applies to all taxable transactions in California and is the result of a 2008-09 budget agreement that temporarily increased the general fund portion of the sales tax and use rate by 1 percent in April 2009. It will sunset – or expire – on June 30.

California’s sales tax rate ranges from 8.25 percent to 10.75 percent, depending on whether additional regional, voter-approved sales taxes apply. As of Friday, the range will be 7.25 percent to 9.75 percent.
