‘The Music Man’

San Benito Stage Company presents Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man,” July 22-23, 29-30 at 7 p.m. and July 24 and 30 at 2 p.m., at the Granada Theatre, 336 Fifth St., in Hollister. Jazz Under the Stars

The Sixth annual Jazz Under the Stars outside of St. Benedict’s Church, July 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event will feature the Magnolia Jazz Band, food, wine and a silent auction. ‘Once Upon a Mattress’

Multiple shows open at Monterey Museum

The Monterey Museum of Art has several shows on display, including “The Art of California, 1880 to present,” “Adams & Weston and the masters of California Photography, “California Artists and Portraiture,” and more. The museum has locations at 559 Pacific St. and 720 Via Mirada. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military and children under 12 are free. Evenings by the Bay

The Monterey Jazz Festival and the Monterey Bay Aquarium present “Evenings by the Bay,” a summer concert series. The Monterey Jazz Festival and the Carmel Bach Festival are collaborating on a performance called Big Band Bach at the Sunset Center in Carmel on July 24 at 8:30 p.m. The jazz festival’s national high school all-star big band, the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, will perform alongside tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and vocalist Alice Kirwan Murray. Movies Under the Stars event will be July 28, at Dunne Park in Hollister. The last movie will be “How to Train Your Dragon.” Sponsored by the Hollister Downtown Association and the Hollister Youth Alliance, showings begin a half hour after dusk and are free to the public. Movies are subject to change, there is limited capacity and all minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Summer movies series

A summer movies series continues July 29 at the San Juan Bautista Elementary soccer field, with a viewing of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” All viewings are free and start at sunset. All children must accompanied by a parent or guardian. No alcoholic beverages are permitted. The series is a collaboration of the Plaza History Association of San Juan Bautista State Historic Park and the San Juan Elementary home and school club. Earthbound Farms is a sponsor. Gilroy Garlic Festival

The Gilroy Garlic Festival is July 29-31, at Christmas Hill Park, in Gilroy. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature a new Gourmet Alley food item, the Alley Wrap with steak and shrimp. Entertainment will include “Top Chef’s” Anthony Sosa, who will conduct a cooking demonstration July 30 and host the Garlic Showdown cooking competition July 31. Musical entertainment includes a wide variety of musicians on three stages, including Kip Moore. Admission is $17 for adults, $8 for seniors ages 60 and up and $8 for children ages 6-12. Texas Hold’em Tournament

The Hollister City Employee Relay for Life team will host a Texas Hold’em Tournament to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event is July 30, at the S.D.E.S Portuguese Hall, 695 Seventh St., in Hollister. Doors open at 6 p.m., with games starting at 6:30 p.m. The cost is a $40 donation per person, with $20 for re-buys and $40 for one add on. Prizes will go to the top 10 finishers. More than 200 vendors selling a variety of antiques and collectibles as well as food will be at the Moss Landing Antique Street Fair on July 31. National Night Out

The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office will host the “2011 National Night Out Against Crime” Aug. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Target parking lot at 1790 Airline Hwy. The annual event provides information to families about law enforcement and community partnerships that keep kids safe. This year’s event will feature music, live entertainment, face painting, raffle prizes and more. Free hot dogs and sodas will be given out. Kids can visit with McGruff, the Crime Dog.

Guest speaker visits Hillside

The San Benito High School class of 1971 will host its fourth annual scholarship fundraiser Aug. 7, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Betabel Station Event Center, 9644 Betabel Road, in San Juan. The scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who plan to further their education at a college, university, technical school or vocational school.
