The left shoulder injury Robert Guerrero suffered Wednesday resulting in the cancellation of his Aug. 27 world title fight with Marcos Maidana will not put The Ghost’s career in jeopardy, Guerrero’s publicist Mario Serrano said Friday night.

“It is not career-ending like we thought,” Serrano said. “But he does have damage to his rotator cuff.”

The five-time world champ flew back to the Bay Area on Thursday for X-rays, which were negative. However, an MRI conducted Friday showed the damage. Guerrero will receive further evaluation Monday.

“We don’t know exactly the prognosis until we see doctor (Michael) Dillingham,” Serrano said. “We will know more about what the next step is to fix it on Monday.”

Guerrero injured his shoulder during a sparring session Wednesday in Big Bear, and after a lengthy discussion with members of his camp, including trainer Ruben Guerrero, manager Bob Santos and Serrano, the decision was made to pull out of the bout.

“It was a very tough decision that we had to make,” Serrano said, adding that a very disappointed Guerrero isn’t speaking on the matter until he learns more of his injury. “We all prayed on it and decided the best thing to do is pull out and get healthy.

“We are down, but we are all keeping our faith,” Serrano continued. “It’s times like this when you really have to stand on your faith and let God guide the ship.”
