Start with the golf ball
By Bruce Lewis
If you are finding that your golf shots are very inconsistent,
it may have nothing to do with your swing.
I was helping Carol Killer last week and noticed she would take
her stance and then set her clubhead down behind the ball. Because
of that her distance from the ball changed with every swing. One
time, Killer was too far from the ball and on the next swing she
was too close.

This is a very common mistake and to fix it, golfers need to build their stance from the ball first and not their feet.
Many golfers get comfortable with their feet first so if they are too far from the ball they tend to lean or stretch to reach the ball. Some golfers stand too close to the ball and have to lean back or straighten their legs to set their club behind the ball.
The correct method to establish the address position is to first ground the clubhead behind the ball and be sure the clubhead is facing the target.
When the club is set correctly, step to the club and grip it with your arms hanging straight down. If the toe of the club is pointing up, you are standing too far away and if the heel of the club is off the ground, you are too close.
This can be difficult to see, so swing by Ridgemark Golf and Country Club to have one of our teaching professionals check you positioning.
