A resident reported finding a decomposed body in Aromas on Monday afternoon, while the coroner’s office expects to conduct an autopsy Wednesday to find a possible cause of death and confirm the deceased person’s sex.

The reporting resident told deputies he had been walking on Cannon Road collecting wood for a home project when he discovered the body off the side of the street, near Chateau Drive. The resident showed investigators the location of the body. It was within 30 feet of the road, said sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Tony Lamonica.

Investigators went to the scene for follow-up examination, collection of evidence and removal of the body.

An autopsy scheduled for Wednesday will confirm the sex of the body and possible cause of death, according to the sheriff’s office. It is unclear how long the person had been there.

“I don’t have any information on the guy at all,” Lamonica said.

That area of Aromas is heavily wooded and about a half-mile north of Highway 101.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (831) 636-4080.
