Gilroy funeral services have been set for Army Staff Sgt. David H. Gutierrez the 35-year-old father of three who died on Christmas Day in Afghanistan.

His wife, Patty, and the Habing Family Funeral Home, which is handling the services, said a vigil will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church, 11 First St., and a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7 followed by full military graveside services and a reception at the Veterans Hall, 74 West Sixth St.

Sgt. Gutierrez’s nephew, Sonder Raymundo, who served in the United States Air Force and “was inspired by Uncle Dave’s military career” will speak at the funeral Mass Thursday said Patty Gutierrez.

The fallen soldier’s body will be flown into the Hollister Municipal Airport and is scheduled to arrive at 10:40 a.m Wednesday.
