Graham Spurzem posted another Central Coast Section qualifying time, two girls’ relays followed suit, and the San Benito swim team swept host Gilroy at the varsity ranks on Friday in Tri-County Athletic League action.

Spurzem recorded a CCS time in the 200 IM, clocking a 2:04.73 to help lead the Baler boys past Gilroy, 110-61.

Meanwhile, the Lady Balers, led by foursome Demi Gatrell, Marisa Casillas, Caitlin Schafer and Czarina Isleta, kept the Mustangs at bay by a 97-71 margin.

The relay foursome recorded a 1:46.83 in the 200 free relay and a 3:57.04 in the 400 free relay, both of which were section-qualifying times.

“It was cold. It was wet. But they swam great,” San Benito head coach Christine Schafer said.

The Lady Balers have now qualified all of their relay teams to the year-end CCS meet, while Spurzem has now qualified in the 200 IM, the 100 back and the 200 medley relay.

At the lower ranks, the junior varsity boys beat Gilroy 105-15, while the JV girls lost 67-100.

San Benito will compete against North Salinas on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The two teams will square off at Salinas’ Everett Alvarez High.
