The Central Coast Barnstormers were unable to avenge last season’s Northern California Football League championship game against the North Bay Rattlers on Saturday, as the local semi-pro football team lost 49-13 to kick-off the 2010 campaign in Gilroy.

The Week 1 matchup was titled the Bell Bowl, and pitted the previous year’s NCFL finalists in a rematch. Last season, North Bay won the championship over Central Coast by a narrow 14-12 margin.

Both teams will enjoy a bye this week. The Barnstormers will return to the field on April 3, when they will open up conference play against the Golden State Giants of San Francisco. Kick-off is 1 p.m.
