The San Benito High School Marching Band performs as they walk down San Benito Street during the Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11.

During the principal’s report to the San Benito High School board at last week’s meeting, Trustee Ray Rodriguez asked for more information about the costs of participating in band, a topic that emerged during the previous regularly scheduled board meeting as well.
In the previous meeting, the superintendent asked the administration to look into why there was low student participation in the band compared with other schools of similar size, according to the minutes. Trustee Juan Robledo offered that the loss of band members might be due to the way scheduling occurs, while student Alonso Garcia said it was an expensive activity, according to the minutes.
“I was a little concerned last time when it came up—the costs of the music program,” said Rodriguez at the meeting last week.
“I can gather that information,” said Principal Todd Dearden. “As a matter of fact, I’m doing that already because I have some concerns about that as well.”
