Nobody was injured in an accident downtown this morning that left a truck overturned and resulted in a traffic closure for about an hour on San Benito Street, a fire captain said.
It occurred at about 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Fifth and San Benito streets, said Capt. Tim Schneider with the Hollister Fire Department.
A Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 16-year-old Hollister boy was northbound on San Benito Street when it struck a Ford Ranger pickup truck, driven by a 36-year-old Hollister man, southbound on Fifth Street that was crossing the intersection, Schneider said.
The truck was overturned on its roof, and the passenger was stuck when emergency crews arrived, but firefighters broke a window so he could get out, the captain said.
Both drivers were examined by American Medical Response and refused further medical attention, while the boy’s mother affirmed his decision when she arrived, Schneider said.
Both drivers indicated to authorities they were wearing seat belts.
Traffic was closed for about an hour after the accident, Schneider said.
Hollister police Sgt. David Westrick said the investigation is active.
