named Player of the Week in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference
after she batted .400 for Cal State Bakersfield, while fellow San
Benito grad Lizzy Gatto was named Player of the Week as well in the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after she helped lead the
Canisius College softball team to a 4-0 record.

Former San Benito Lady Baler Kristen Archuleta was recently named Player of the Week in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference after she batted .400 for Cal State Bakersfield, while fellow San Benito grad Lizzy Gatto was named Player of the Week as well in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after she helped lead the Canisius College softball team to a 4-0 record.
Gatto, a sophomore outfielder, batted .750 (6 of 8) with a double, a triple, a home run, five runs scored and four RBI as the Golden Griffins took four games against St. Bonaventure and Rider.
A 2008 San Benito High graduate, Gatto’s offensive prowess was felt in both series against the two opponents. She hit a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh to help Canisius leapfrog St. Bonaventure by a 6-4 margin on April 21, then plated three runs and connected on a triple in the Griffs 12-2 victory over Rider on April 25.
The four-game onslaught wasn’t all that different from Gatto’s regular-season performance to date, however. She is currently leading Canisius at the plate with a .406 (43 of 106) batting average, which is the second highest average in the MAAC.
Gatto is also tied for first on the team with 34 runs scored, and third on the team in hits (43), doubles (9) and slugging percentage (.642). She is first on the Griffs with a .492 on-base percentage, and also boasts four home runs and 23 RBI.
Canisius College is currently 26-14 overall and 8-2 in the MAAC.
Meanwhile, Archuleta, a senior second baseman at Cal State Bakersfield, became the fourth Roadrunner this season to garner player of the week honors in the Pacific Coast Softball Conference.
A 2006 graduate of San Benito High, Archuleta batted .400 during a four-game series last weekend against San Diego, and belted three three-run homers in the process. The former Lady Baler now has 10 home runs this season, making her the second Roadrunner ever to reach double-digits in a single year.
The second baseman — she handled all 18 chances at her position cleanly — also boasted a .500 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Perhaps more impressively, though, Archuleta had 10 of Bakersfield’s 23 RBIs on the weekend, and matched a career-high of four during Sunday’s 9-3 win.
