Look at candidates carefully
The upcoming election has several important issues and offices
to be decided, but none more important than the election of a new
sheriff for San Benito County.
Sheriff Hill has chosen to retire at the end of his term. He has
done a great job leading the Sheriff’s Office, and law enforcement
as a whole, to a high standard of professionalism. He leaves at a
time when the local economy is still in poor shape, unemployment in
the county is at an all-time low and some quality of life issues,
specifically gangs, are on an increase.
The new sheriff has to be able to lead not only the men and
women of the Sheriff’s Office, but as the chief law enforcement
officer in the County, all phases of law enforcement in San Benito
County.
The residents of San Benito County should take this selection
very seriously. While we are ultimately responsible for our own
quality of life, our law enforcement professionals are a large part
of it.
Take the time to research each candidate. Look at experience,
credentials, and breadth of knowledge. San Benito County has grown
and is no longer a small farming area. We have a diverse population
that covers the entire socio-economic spectrum.
Professional competent leadership needs to continue at the
Sheriff’s Office. It may be best served by an internal, local or
out of town candidate. As residents of San Benito County, you need
to take your responsibility seriously and do your research, look at
the web sites, talk to the candidates, ask the hard questions and
figure out who best should be the next chief law enforcement
officer in this county. Our future depends on it.

Stand up for Panoche Valley
Kudos to Kim Williams for providing us with real facts about the farce that is Solargen and its equally laughable plan to lay millions of solar panels in our beloved Panoche Valley.
San Benito County has seen numerous outlandish developmental changes imposed by its Board of Supervisors in recent years, but perhaps none so baffling as this proposed solar project. We as residents owe it to ourselves and to the land of San Benito County to preserve and protect what we have and all that it offers. The mere thought of installing such a mass of solar panels in one of the most pristine areas of our county is an absolute disgrace and an injustice to San Benito County and beyond.
Anyone who has leisurely traveled to the heart of Panoche Valley can relate to this sentiment. The land boasts, true, virtually undisturbed beauty. To keep it that way, it is crucial that we as County residents take a stand against the County’s budding relationship with Solargen and it’s aggressive proposal.
With upcoming elections, there is no better time than now to take that stand. We have seen the facts, and they speak for themselves; moving forward with the solar project would be an absolute atrocity to our County. Minimal revenue, if any, no jobs, broken promises. So before you go to the polls, make sure you know who has a hand in Solargen’s pocket and who doesn’t. Please don’t let County leaders decimate our Panoche Valley.
