The family of Robert G. Stewart released the following statement about the Canadian man whose remains were found in March south of Hollister. The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday announced his identity after an official confirmation.
The following was e-mailed to a reporter in response to an interview request:
“Emotionally we are not able to speak with you in person as this is a very difficult time for us. Although we would like to tell you we are very grateful to the couple who found our son’s remains, and were caring enough to contact the sheriff’s office in Hollister. Detective Nino has been so kind and caring to us as a family. Our son was a beautiful intelligent young man. He loved to travel, explore and was very respectful of nature. He spoke several languages fluently and always wanted to learn more. It has been 4 long agonizing years of waiting and wondering where he was. Although many questions remain, we feel our prayers for closure have been answered. We thank all who were involved the case. Especially the kindness of the hotel staff we stayed at, the San Benito County detectives, and others who have worked diligently on the case. Our hearts and prayers go out to any other families who are going through similar situations at this time. Thank you for respecting our privacy. The Stewart family.”
