A sweep of the doubles portion allowed the San Benito Haybalers to defeat the Palma Chieftains 5-2 on Tuesday in Tri-County Athletic League action.

It was the first match for the Balers since March 29 when they narrowly lost 4-3 to Carmel. San Benito is now 5-3 on the season.

Palma managed to take the top two singles matches for its only points on the day. Chieftain Dominick Ottone topped Kyle Skinner 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 1 position, while teammate Hunter Johnson defeated Jacob Garcia 6-4, 6-0 in the 2-spot in singles.

Otherwise, San Benito took the remaining five matches, including three doubles matches to provide the win.

Connor Bray and Michael Jensen upended Joe Corner and Ethan Shaw 6-4, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles; Jacob Panger and Geoff Muzik topped Neal Lel and John Delgado 6-1, 6-1; and San Benito’s Travis Mills and Mark Starritt dispatched Henry Marassou and Ernesto Huerta 6-3, 6-3.

On March 11, the Balers swept the doubles portion over Palma en route to an identical 5-2 victory.

In No. 3 singles on Tuesday, though, Austin Pan defeated Christian Bengard 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), and Eric Johnson beat Jose Ponce 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to round out San Benito’s victories.

The Balers’ scheduled match on Thursday against Monte Vista Christian, originally slated to be held at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister, has been moved to Pajaro Valley High School.

Match time is 3:30 p.m.
