Both the San Benito boys and girls track teams remained undefeated in the Tri-County Athletic League on Thursday in Hollister, where the Baler boys topped Palma 111-25 and the Lady Balers defeated Notre Dame 81-54.

The Spirits, who have several strong individuals, including Nina Anderson in the long-distance races, recently finished in third place at the Bill Kearney Invitational last Saturday with 41 points.

San Benito compiled 20 points to finish in 10th place.

However, the Lady Balers’ depth in all events shown through on Thursday, leading to the 27-point victory at Andy Hardin Stadium.

Rain earlier in the week kept San Benito’s dirt track moist and a little slow, leading to average times in the foot races. But Lady Balers Krystal Alnas and Cassie Pate managed to set personal-record throws in the shot put.

Pate recorded a 33-01 in the shot put, while Alnas had a 35-0 ¼. Alnas also recorded a 95-01 in the discus, which was another personal record for the sophomore.

Monique Lassaga-Bishop, meanwhile, set a personal record in the pole vault with a leap of 9-0.

Teammate Sophie Coelho, however, is sidelined with a sprained ankle and did not compete in the pole vault event on Thursday against Notre Dame, and will miss Friday’s Top 8 meet at Los Gatos as well.

The Lady Balers have several alternates listed for the exclusive top-8 event, although Melissa Castro is expected to compete in the high jump.

Friday’s Top 8 meet kept several of the Baler boys out from competing against Palma on Thursday, too, including Eddie Guzman and Jose Castillo in the two-mile event and Jason Roascio in the 200- and 400-meter races.

Roascio did run in the 100, though, and he took first place in 10.99. David Kret also took first place in the 800, cruising to an unofficial time of 2:08.

In the field, Lucas Haro set a personal record in the long jump with a leap of 19-3, which was good enough for first place, while teammate Jordan Belton finished second with a jump of 19-0.

The Baler boys have several entries in today’s Top 8 meet in Los Gatos, where field events are expected to get under way at 3 p.m. and track events at 4:30 p.m.

JV Note:

The Palma junior varsity track team defeated San Benito 85-46, while the Notre Dame junior varsity track team did the same against the Lady Balers, 66-55.
