She and husband Fredo Fontanez made it happen May 1 in downtown when Dolce Baby and Mommy Too opened in the 700 block of San Benito Street, in the former location of Thyme. The couple gained inspiration from the birth of their boy, Michelangelo, now seven months old.

“He’s pretty much the reason for it,” said Veronica Fontanez, as her husband held their son while in the store this week.

Another inspiration came with the types of clothing there. The mother mentioned how she went to see “The Ellen Degeneres Show” and got the idea to use some of the brands she saw during the taping, what she described as “celebrity” lines such as Zooni worn by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s kids, and also Trumpette.

The two also named their own brand, Michelangelo, displayed in the front corner of the store, after their boy. Nearby that section is the area set aside for maternity clothing as well.

Besides running the store, the owners noted how they are organizing “stroller walks” several days a week and they invited other parents to join them. They’re at 9 a.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays for moms and 9 a.m. Saturdays for dads, starting at the store.

Dolce Baby is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It has clothing for kids up to age 4, and eventually expects to add apparel for 5-year-olds, too.
