Effective July 1, the rates for Recology San Benito County roadside waste pickup will decrease by 3.16 percent.

In 2007, Recology San Benito County – at the time named Norcal Waste Systems of San Benito County – won its bid to become the waste collector of San Benito County. The deal included a stipulation stating its rates would fluctuate depending on a calculation of the Consumer Price Index and Motor Fuel Index of the previous year.

Last year the CPI went up by a small margin of 0.62 percent but the fuel rates dropped extensively, bringing the reduction of rates to 3.16 percent.

The Motor Fuel Index number at 203.130 is the lowest since at least 2006. But the CPI number for all other expenditures at 224.395 is the highest in that period.

The 3.16 percent decrease will affect all Recology rates.
