Justin Leonard, a 12-time PGA Tour winner, heads the latest group of players committed to the upcoming Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club.

Leonard won the 1996 British Open and is a three-time member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team. He is one of several highly ranked players who recently signed up for the Oct. 14-17 Frys.com Open, the first PGA Tour event in Silicon Valley.

Two-time European Ryder Cup team member Henrik Stenson, winner of the 2009 Players Championship and 2007 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, is set to visit San Martin along with 1992 and 1998 U.S. Open winner Lee Janzen and 2007 Frys.com Open champ George McNeill. Bryce Molder, ranked 66th in the world, has also committed.

The 132-player field will be finalized Oct. 8.

Tournament chairwoman and Fry’s Electronics co-founder Kathy Kolder recently announced that Robert Trent Jones Jr., the renowned designer of CordeValle’s championship course and more than 270 others, has been named tournament honoree.

Jones Jr., better known as RTJ II in the golf world, will be present at several activities during the tournament week. Spectators can meet the legendary course architect at the Pro-Am held Oct. 13 at CordeValle.
