The Hollister Police Department has finished its investigation into a suspected hit-and-run Dec. 5 in the 800 block of Fourth Street and handed over the case report to the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office.

Hollister’s Alberto Preciado, 69, was the pedestrian killed in the incident. He died of blunt-force trauma to the head, coroner’s office spokesman Lt. Roy Iler has said.

Hollister police spokesman Sgt. David Westrick confirmed the department submitted the case report to the district attorney, who will decide whether charges are appropriate.

“The totality of the evidence has been placed in the report,” Westrick said, noting how “several different” charges are possible.

Westrick declined to elaborate on the circumstances the night of the fatality.

District Attorney Candice Hooper on Friday said the office “just got the report” and had not reviewed it.

After the crash, police arrived at the scene around 8 p.m. and found a man lying in the middle of the road. The man had a fatal injury to his head, police said. An hour after the incident, the driver called the police department and identified himself or herself as the one who hit the man with a vehicle, police said. Police recovered the vehicle.
