The Anzar High girls basketball team dropped to 0-5 on the early season Saturday, but delivered one of its better performances of the year in a shorthanded affair against Live Oak at the Mustang Classic in Gilroy.

Although the Hawks dropped the contest to Live Oak, 50-30, Anzar head coach Sam Stewart said he had only seven players, all of whom were guards or small forwards.

The game, meanwhile, was Anzar’s fifth last week. It played Gonzales (50-12 L) to open the season last Tuesday, fell to York (32-25 L) on Wednesday, then played three straight games in three straight days at the Mustang Classic in Gilroy, going 0-3 against Aptos, Harbor and Live Oak.

The Hawks will play again on Monday night, when they will play at Soledad. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
