SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

Alyssa Rodriguez scored 15 points, Sydnee Masuen had 14 and the Anzar High girls basketball team routed visiting York 51-19 Wednesday in San Juan Bautista.

Rodriguez added five rebounds and five steals to her double-digit point total, while Masuen also had five steals.

Nicole Mello had nine points and six rebounds, while Kelsey Robledo had eight points and eight rebounds in the 32-point win, Anzar’s fifth victory in their last six games.

The Hawks are now 4-1 in the Coastal Athletic League, 6-10 overall.

Anzar seemingly controlled the game from start to finish, jumping out to a 15-6 lead after the first quarter.

“We had a little bit of a slow start,” Anzar head coach Aaron Netzel said.

The Hawks held York to just two points in the second period, and controlled a 30-8 lead at halftime.

“We’re just gearing up for Anchorpoint Christian on Saturday,” Netzel added. “We are definitely prepared for the days ahead.

“It’s a very similar situation as last year, where we control our own destiny.”

Anzar will host Anchorpoint Christian on Saturday in San Juan Bautista at 12 p.m.

Although the Warriors have already defeated Pacific Collegiate this season, a team Anzar lost to, Anchorpoint recently fell to York by four points.

“We’re just fine-tuning for our game on Saturday,” Netzel said.
