Stacie Rowe connected on a clutch single to tie the game, Gabi Medina plated the winning run on a pass ball and the Anzar High softball team scored three times in the bottom of the seventh Thursday to steal an 8-7 win against visiting Anchorpoint Christian.

The last-inning heroics supplied the Hawks with a 5-1 record in the Coastal Athletic League and its second win this week following a victory against Greenfield on Tuesday.

However, Anzar’s three-run seventh against Anchorpoint wasn’t the only string of heroics in the game. The Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two and half innings before Anzar was able to even get on the scoreboard.

But Cristina Medina reached base by an error to leadoff the home half of the third, and preceded a hit-by-pitch and Jennifer Gross’ single into left-center field to load the bases for Nicole Mello.

Mello drove the second pitch she saw into right-center field for a bases-clearing triple, while Erin Deleissegues followed with an RBI single to plate Mello from third and bring the Hawks to within one run.

Both teams exchanged runs in the fifth before Anchorpoint tacked on some added insurance in the sixth inning to give the Warriors a 7-5 lead.

But in the game’s final frame, Anzar began to mount its comeback when Deleissegues singled on to open the bottom of the seventh, while the next two batters walked to load the bases.

Kimberly Naranjo hit an RBI single to shallow center field, bringing the Hawks back within one, while Rowe’s single scored Danielle McMath to tie the game at 7-all.

Medina scored the winning run on a pass ball from Anchorpoint’s pitcher.

Anzar’s victory over Greenfield on Tuesday was somewhat similar as the Hawks fell behind early 3-0. But McMath was 3-for-4 and Deleissegues, Gross and Mello each added two hits apiece to propel Anzar past the Bruins.

The Hawks will play York Tuesday.
