The recently hired code enforcement officer left the city after a short time on the job, Code Enforcement Director Mike Chambless confirmed today.
The official confirmed that former Code Enforcement Officer Marcus Mendes is no longer working for the city and Chambless cited a “personnel issue” for his release.
Mendes, hired in early April and in that position for about a month, was responsible for enforcing code violations in the city ranging from substandard housing to junk-laden front lawns. One of the other major focuses for Mendes was dealing with issues regarding foreclosed homes.
Chambless said he is picking up the slack while looking to fill the position.
“We are considering picking up someone off the candidate list.”
Chambless was named the as the director of the Hollister Municipal Airport and code enforcement in October 2008 after having an interim title for 10 months. Prior to that, Chambless worked as the code enforcement officer. While the city was in the search for an enforcement officer, Chambless managed the airport and handled enforcement issues as well.
