The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has confirmed a second fatality in the June 18 accident on Highway 152 involving a car that slammed under a big-rig trailer while the tractor-trailer’s driver was attempting a U-turn.

The female driver of the 2006 Dodge Charger, 19-year-old Gurvinder Chahal of Ceres, died on Tuesday, according to the coroner’s office.

One male passenger of the vehicle, 18-year-old Simardeep Bhatia of Turlock, died on the scene of the accident that morning.

Another passenger in the Charger, 18-year-old Jasbir Singh of Hughson, survived the accident.

The accident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. June 18 near the Highways 152-156 intersection.

A California Highway Patrol spokeswoman noted how the semi-truck driver, 57-year-old David Jones of Hayward, while attempting an illegal U-turn entered the dirt median with the vehicle’s front end as the trailer blocked the westbound lanes.

The driver of the Charger while going at a “high rate of speed” did not react quickly enough to avoid it and the car “collided into and drove underneath the semi-trailer,” she said.
