Work is under way at Valley View Park, otherwise known as Whale Park, along with Jerry Gabe Memorial Park at the airport.
Valley View Park will receive new playground equipment and a half-court basketball area, which was in original park plans but didn’t get built due to lacking funds at the time.
The airport park will get a new playground structure called Alpine Adventure.
In early December, council members allocated $140,000 in park funds toward new playground equipment at Las Brisas, Park Hill and Jerry Gabe Memorial parks so the city would be eligible for grant money from a manufacturer company. The city has installed the equipment at Las Brisas Park. In February, council members also unanimously approved spending $150,000 to improve Valley View Park.
Mayor Ignacio Velazquez said the city will next work on the Park Hill playground structure. He said there are plans to work on McCarthy Park and Calaveras Park after those.
Additionally, the city has resurfaced the tennis courts at Dunne Park.
