Rick Mattish, who has lived in Hollister for all but five years of his life, was recently selected to head the private school. He is taking over for Walt Lindquist who, after 10 years with the school, retired and moved back east to be with his family.

Mattish, 38, received his bachelor’s degree in biology education and is completing a graduate degree in educational leadership. In addition to his time as a student, Mattish has also spent the last 15 years teaching in the junior high and high school.

“I look forward to new opportunities to interact with students, faculty and families,” Mattish said.

Being so familiar with the school has helped prepare him for his new role.

“I think having a historical perspective really helps to give me a sense of our purpose and mission,” Mattish said. “We want to continue to be a place where children can get a quality education not only academically, but also morally, physically, socially and spiritually.

“We want to educate the whole child and prepare them to know their individual responsibilities to their family, community and God.”

Although Mattish intends to continue the general direction of the school, he does have some new ideas.

“I would like to pursue increased integration of technology into our curriculum,” he said. “I am also looking for increased interaction and communication with our parents and am always looking for ways to improve the school and meet the needs of those benefiting from the ministry.”

One of the new administrator’s goals is to reach out to the community.

“We want to make sure that families who would be interested in education at a Christian school know that we are here and are an excellent option for them,” he said. “We have been trying to get our name out more and more. I am excited about the history of the school and look forward to having a part in seeing it grow.”
