A mountain lion was killed on northbound Highway 101 Wednesday morning, just north of Rocks Road, according to a California Highway Patrol official.
“It came in as an injured mountain lion in the center divide but when we got there, it was dead,” according to a dispatch official fielding calls for Gilroy-based California Highway Patrol station.
The vehicle that hit the animal had left the scene, the official explained. Caltrans was called to pick up the carcass, she said.
The spokesperson was not sure how common mountain lion road kills are during this time of year.
“I don’t usually take mountain lion calls, so I don’t know if anyone else does,” she said.
