Victoria Aguilera scored 16 points, Mari Vallejo added eight and the San Benito Lady Balers dispatched Buhach Colony 53-16 on Thursday night in the opening round of the Alisal Winter Jam in Salinas.

The win improves San Benito to 6-0 on the season. The Lady Balers advance to the semifinal round of holiday tournament as well, where they will play North Monterey County.

“It should be a great game,” San Benito head coach David Kaplansky said. “It’s always tough the second time you play a team.”

The Lady Balers defeated North County 43-31 in Castroville on Dec. 8.

On Thursday, Aguilera’s 16 points tied Buhach Colony’s output over four quarters. The Atwater school was held to single-digit point totals in each quarter, and trailed 31-5 at halftime.

San Benito had 12 different scorers on Thursday night.

The Lady Balers will return to the Alisal Winter Jam on Friday against North County. Tip-off is 6:30 p.m.
