SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

Anzar’s Kelsey Robledo had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds against Carmel on Tuesday night in San Juan Bautista, but the visiting Padres clamped down on the rest of the Hawks basketball team en route to a 57-23 victory in non-conference play.

Britteny Doty supplied Anzar’s other point after going 1 of 2 from the free throw line.

The Hawks have lost two straight since opening the season with two victories, and currently own a 2-2 record.

“We’re challenging ourselves by playing teams at a higher level,” Anzar head coach Aaron Netzel said. “Yesterday was very difficult. But you’ve got to take your lumps when trying to learn lessons.

“Some of the lessons are a little bit tougher than others.”

Carmel grabbed a 17-6 lead after one quarter and a 23-14 lead at the break. The Hawks, though, were held to single-digit point totals in each of the four quarters Tuesday, and were unable to mount any comeback as a result.

Robledo’s 22 points included an 8 of 11 performance from the free throw line.

Anzar (2-2) will visit Greenfield on Thursday at 5 p.m.
