Haybalers win 4-0 against Vikings after 2-1 defeat to Alvarez
Tuesday
Two days after a tough 2-1 loss to Everett Alvarez, the San Benito boys soccer team rebounded Thursday with a 4-0 rout of North Salinas in Hollister.

Coach Ben Alvarez described the match as “total domination” for the Haybalers, who evened their record at 2-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League.

“I changed the whole field this time,” Alvarez said. “I attacked them right away offensively.

“The moment the ball was touched, we took control right away.”

Efrain Espinoza scored in the 5th minute off a penalty kick that put the ‘Balers on the board. Fifteen minutes later, in the 20th minute, Jose Granados made it 2-nil for San Benito.

Coming out in the second half, Gilbert Lizarraga made it a three-goal lead with his score in the 45th minute, while Josh Flores made it a rout in the 50th minute with a goal.

All of the goals scored by San Benito were unassisted.

“After that, Josh Flores, he must have outrun the defense about 10 times,” Alvarez said. “But the goalie stopped everything. He just dominated that defense all on his own.”

On Tuesday, San Benito lost to Everett Alvarez 2-1. Flores scored the lone goal for the Haybalers.

San Benito is now 4-3-2 overall.

The ‘Balers will play at Alisal in Salinas next Thursday. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m.
