Derek La Casa sorts cattle for sale out of state at 101 Livestock Market in Aromas.

The election of officers for the San Benito County CattleWomen took place in December 2014. Those elected for the 2015-16 year were: Jae Eade, president; Heather Callens, vice president; Charlotte Cabral, secretary; and Marie Pera, treasurer. The directors elected were Sherry Holiday, Dianne Rodrigues and Sandy Williams. Helen Mautlich is state delegate. Jamii Pura was elected beef promotion chairman and Martha Tobias, parliamentarian.
The annual card party was chaired by Charlotte Cabral and was a huge success. The event was held in February at the Tres Pinos Church hall. The proceeds from this event add dollars to our scholarship fund. We were able to give three scholarships this year and are proud to support our youth. The scholarship chairman is Heather Callens and she and her committee were impressed by the quality of the applicants.
Jamii Pura, beef promotion chairman, partnered with the San Benito County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Director Mary Lou Coffelt  with a brochure that depicts Harvest of the Month. Mary Lou and Jamii did a marvelous job on the brochure that explained beef nutrients, beef history, beef  in San Benito County , beef by-products and bovine facts.
The annual Heritage Night Dinner was held in May at the 19th Hole and was sold out. Martha Tobias gave a talk on the history of Bolado Park that was enjoyed by all those that attended. If course, the menu was beef steak and it was outstanding.
Jae Eade, representing the CattleWomen and Ken Griffin representing the Cattlemen, attended the EATS lunch. The topic of the day was farm labor. This event brings teachers together for a day to explain agriculture in our community. Each commodity is represented and the educators are able to ask any questions they may have on any product.  The Farm Bureau hosts the event.
The Beef Promotion committee developed a project that would promote San Benito County and provide education on beef including healthy tips. It took a lot of time but the placemats have been designed and delivered to the restaurants. This project could not have been completed without the grant that was received from The Community Foundation for San Benito County. We are grateful for their grant. Without it, we would not have a professional quality product. Our thanks also for the design go to Redbeard Communications.
We are looking forward to the San Benito County Saddle Horse Show the end of this month. Our next big event will be the Summer BBQ when the CowBelle of the Year will be named for 2015. Enjoy your summer and eat lots of beef.
