Brent Cardall, who spent more than two decades with the Utah Department of Corrections, will begin as the San Benito County chief probation officer Thursday.

The state-run San Benito County Superior Court and county government worked together in selecting Cardall.

According to a statement from the court, Cardall recently served as director of inmate placement services for the Utah Department of Corrections and holds a master’s degree in human resource management from Webster University. Cardall completed his undergraduate degree in criminal justice at Columbia College.

“Mr. Cardall possesses the necessary qualifications to successfully lead the Probation Department,” Judge Harry Tobias wrote in a statement. “As well, the Superior Court is pleased that the selection of Mr. Cardall was a collaborative process with the County of San Benito.”

On Tuesday, the county’s director of internal services, Rich Inman, said Cardall was the best of the candidates for the job.

“Both interview panels were consistent in identifying him as the premiere candidate, and all his references, in fact his whole complete background, was exemplary,” Inman said.
