Lady ‘Balers earn second seed, Haybalers sixth seed, Anzar ninth
seed in this week’s Central Coast Section playoffs
The San Benito girls basketball team earned the No. 2 seed in this week’s Central Coast Section Division I playoffs, and won’t have to play until Saturday’s quarterfinal round.

The Lady ‘Balers, with an overall record of 20-5, will have a bye through the first and second rounds of the CCS tournament.

Come Saturday, they could see a familiar foe, as No. 15 Salinas, No. 10 Watsonville and No. 7 Gilroy are all seeded in the first two rounds before the quarterfinals.

San Benito, though, will not see a home game, as Saturday’s quarterfinal is slated for Milpitas High School.

Other member schools of the Tri-County Athletic League that earned a seed in the CCS DI playoffs include No. 11 Alisal and No. 4 North Salinas, which also earned a spot in Saturday’s quarterfinal round.

Carlmont earned the top seed in Division I.

TCAL member Notre Dame earned a 6-seed in Division IV.

The San Benito boys basketball team earned the No. 6 seed as a result of their 19-8 overall record, and will open the CCS Division I tournament in Thursday’s second round.

Awarded a first-round bye, the Haybalers will play the winner between No. 11 Independence (17-9) and No. 14 Alisal (14-12).

That second-round contest will be held at San Benito High School on Thursday at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to play No. 3 Serra in Saturday’s quarterfinal.

North Salinas earned the No. 10 seed, while Piedmont Hills was given the top seed in Division I.

TCAL champion Palma was given the No. 1 seed in Division IV.

In Division V girls, the Anzar Hawks (13-7) were awarded the No. 9 seed, and will open the CCS tournament at No. 8 St. Lawrence (13-9) on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The winner of that contest will advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal round against No. 1 Eastside College Prep (26-1).
