San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies said they shut down a large marijuana growing operation in Hollister on Thursday when they raided a suspected “drug house” and confiscated $214,260 worth of marijuana along with 12 guns.
According to a sheriff’s office report, a United Narcotics Enforcement Team task force searched a house at 990 Talbot Drive in the early morning hours on Thursday and found 115 live marijuana plants, 16 pounds of “processed” marijuana, $10,000 and 12 firearms, including one assault rifle.
The team led by Cmdr. Mark Colla found the live marijuana plants in a shed behind the suspects home, along with a loaded shotgun. Inside the house deputies found bags containing the processed marijuana, which was separated and ready for sale. Also in the home were other firearms, including the assault rifle, five other rifles and five pistols. They also found illegal fireworks.
Colla said the man was a felon, convicted in Santa Clara County of similar charges in 1995.
“Obviously (the suspect) being an ex-felon and committing the same crime, it’s great to get him, along with these guns and drugs, off the street,” Colla said.
The man was arrested on suspicion of planting and cultivating marijuana, possessing marijuana for sale, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing explosives illegally.
