Officials this year decided to take over official rally merchandise sales as a way to raise money for the general fund. They have estimated that selling T-shirts, hats and pins will net a sum anywhere between about $85,000 and $425,000. In the past, a private vendor has overseen the official merchandise sales.

Other items on the agenda included closing Neil Drive for a block party, the temporary hiring of a firefighter, declaring certain properties with overgrown weeds a “public nuisance,” the purchase of water meters and maintenance for the city’s water and sewer system.

Full stories on many of these issues will be posted today and Wednesday and will appear in Friday’s Free Lance.
